How Otter handles account data, group expense records, mobile numbers, QR images, and payment confirmation logs.

Otter never sends, receives, or holds money. It only tracks who owes whom.

You choose what to share

Phone numbers and QR screenshots are only stored if you add them as payment references.

No data selling

We do not sell your personal information to anyone.

What Otter Is

Otter is an expense split tracker. It helps groups record shared expenses, calculate balances, and keep track of who has settled up. Otter does not process, send, receive, or hold any payments.

What We Collect

We collect only what is needed to run the app.

  • Account info — your name, email, and profile details when you sign up via Google or Apple.
  • Group and expense data — group names, members, expenses, split amounts, balances, and settlement status.
  • Payment references (optional) — if you choose to add a mobile number or upload a QR code screenshot as a payment method reference, we store that so group members know where to send money outside the app.
  • Device and usage data — basic technical information for security, debugging, and keeping the app running.

Payment References Are Your Choice

Otter lets you optionally add a phone number or QR code screenshot so other group members can see where to pay you. This is entirely your decision — you can use Otter without adding any payment reference.

If you add a payment reference, it is only visible to members of the groups you belong to. You can remove it at any time.

How We Use Your Data

  • To create and manage your account, groups, and expense records.
  • To sync data across your devices.
  • To show group members the payment references you chose to add.
  • To keep the app secure and fix bugs.
  • To send service notices when necessary.

Who Sees Your Data

We do not sell your data.

  • Group members see the expenses, balances, and payment references within their group.
  • Our service providers (hosting, auth, storage) process data on our behalf to run the app.
  • We may share data if required by law.

Offline Data

If you use Otter without an account, all data stays on your device. Nothing is sent to our servers until you sign in and choose to sync.

Deleting Your Data

You can remove payment references, leave groups, or delete expense records from within the app. To delete your entire account and all associated data, contact us at hello@dianoiatech.com and we will process it within 30 days.

Security

We use reasonable safeguards to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, but we take the protection of your information seriously.

Changes

We may update this policy. If we make significant changes, we will update the effective date and notify you through the app.
